Cozumel to Holbox Whale Shark Snorkel Day Trip |
|
This is an excellent day trip for Cozumel visitors who want to snorkel with whale sharks and visit Isla Holbox at the same time. Isla Holbox is considered the original home of the whale sharks and all of the whale shark snorkel trips used to originate out of this island. But over the years the whale shark population has grown and moved and is now accessible from both Holbox and Cancun.
A day trip to visit Isla Holbox and snorkel with whale sharks will take you on a journey through the Yucatan peninsula and then on to Isla Holbox where the snorkel adventure will begin.
Offering the only highly personalized service for this lengthy but amazing adventure to Holbox, this whaleshark tour provider has the "inside track" on finding whalesharks from family who actually live right in the area where the whalesharks congregate!
Experience this once in a lifetime opportunity to snorkel with whale sharks known as gentle giants of the sea. The Mexican Caribbean is home to this mysterious wonder of nature July through September as whale sharks migrate through the area. The adventure begins bright and early as guests meet their guide for departure to the mainland. On the mainland guests are transported by comfortable vehicles with A/C to the coastal departure point for the whaleshark expedition. A friendly guide accompanies everyone throughout the entire day's journey to point out the highlights of the expedition as well as to share information about these remarkable whale sharks.
Once at the coastal departure point, guests will board a panga type fishing boat which will travel to the Open Ocean Natural Reserve. This is where the high concentration of plankton annually attracts the whale sharks for feeding, mating and basking in the shallows below the surface. When the whale sharks are spotted participants enter the water a few at a time and get to snorkel and swim alongside these gentle giants of the sea. Other participants will be busy taking pictures or video from on board the boat. After the encounter, guests enjoy some soft drinks as the boat heads for a typical Caribbean fishing village where there will be about 1 hour of free time to enjoy a buffet lunch and wander around to interact with the people or bargain for treasures before heading back to Cozumel. |

Hello, I will visit the island next weekend. I just want to thank you and your staff who make this website, because I've been checking a lot of websites, even those Trip Advisor, and yours has been much more useful to plan this trip. Specially because it has links to official websites from local beaches, tips about prices and ways to get somewhere. Good job! I'll write again to tell you about the experience. C. Quijano (Feb. 2015) ~ Mexico

My family and I have returned to Cozumel many times - it's a favorite destination and we have watched it change over the past 20 years. The Cozumel Insider is a great publication - it's a wonderful way to keep up with the news about one of our favorite islands. We are preparing to visit again this August and the Insider has shown us some different activities to try, as well as helped to bring us up to date with local political and ecological happenings. We're delighted to see the interest in wildlife conservation throughout the area. Keep up the good work on this terrific site. D. McClean ~ unknown

Just returned from Cozumel where we participated in the FP&M Turtle Salvation program and it was the highlight of our trip. Our guides picked us up at our hotel right on time. They were very nice and one spoke fantastic English. Being able to participate in the extraction of newly hatched baby sea turtles from their nests and then watching them scurry into the ocean was so amazing. There were 4 nests hatching that evening so we were interacting with baby turtles for several hours. Those little turtles are SO adorable and so VERY determined to get to the water. This activity exceeded our expectations. I would recommend it to anyone who loves nature and wants to help this endangered species. It is awesome that cozumelinsider.com donates its resources to handle the bookings for this activity to help raise funds for this great cause. Thanks for an awesome experience! T. Daily ~ Arizona
