A Personal Note from Sherri "Season's Greetings & Holiday Wishes !"
Sherri Davis - Owner/Operator CozumelInsiderIt’s incredible to realize but yet another Holiday Season is upon us! I managed to get back to Texas for a few weeks just before Thanksgiving so now my mother will come here for the next few holiday weeks. In preparation for her arrival shortly, I’ve been frantically trying to decorate the place a bit for the festive weeks ahead. I must tell you that it’s a real challenge to try to create that “winter wonderland” feeling when one is barefoot and sweating bullets whilst dragging out the ornaments!
Nonetheless ~ I forge ahead!

The first thing that must be done of course is to actually locate the accumulation of said decorations. So I manage to squeeze through the bodega and find the stuff underneath this season’s “just in case” hurricane prep materials. As I reach for the boxes and lift them over my head to pass them out the door to some one, I’m lecturing myself over having accumulated so much junk in the bodega this past year. Then I remember to be thankful that no storms came our way and none of this stuff had to be used. Of course the cardboard boxes barely make it out of my hands before starting to crumble into a million pieces. Hmmmm….tropical mold ~ mildew. Interesting eaters they are...perhaps the same organisms eating oil spills these days! Plastic crates and climate control….good things ~ when you have access to them!

I then began to sort through this little pile of cardboard covered rubble that just a few months ago was holiday decorations worthy of saving. After a few minutes of poking around amongst unidentifiable green and red stuff, I’m thinking I’m better off just grabbing the strings of lights and hauling the rest to the garbage. So I did just that and created quite a ruckus on the street of course because anytime a neighbor sees anything shiny or glittery sticking out of a garbage sack ~ it’s fair game!

Later that night I began trying in earnest to decorate the house for my mom's arrival. I put a pot of water on the stove to boil and filled it with cinnamon sticks. I got out some holiday candles and lit those as well trying to fill the air with a holiday smell to inspire me. I hung some garland, laid out placemats, put holiday hand towels in the bathrooms and trimmed a miniature tree to set on my kitchen bar. Things were moving right along now and the cinnamon was beginning to boil. Hmmmmm….those lights I salvaged ~ I could use those wrapped amongst the garland on the stairway banister. So I go over and begin to intertwine the lights with the garland. I was so excited as I completed the first strand of lights that I just had to plug them in and see how it looked. Even though I just purchased these lights last year, over half the lights wouldn’t even come on! The annoying part was that those lights not burning were in an organized pattern on the string. So it was not a general failure or operator error but instead simply poor quality merchandise. As I unplugged the string and began untangling it from the garland, that big safety tag they stick on the cord drug through my hand and I flipped it over. Dang. Made in Cheena. Figures!

Guess I’ll just get out more candles and wear red flip flops. ?Is that enough holiday spirit, you think?!
As we all give thanks this season, what better place to spend the holidays than right here in Cozumel ~ getting to know the island, its culture and all the wonderful people who call the island home. So come on down ~ we are all getting ready and waiting for you! And if you don't yet have a place to stay ~ I would love to have you with us at my
IslaMar Villas this winter season!

I will leave you with the authentic sound of the holiday season in Mexico ~ Mariachi style! Here's wishing each one of you a very "Merri-Achi Christmas" from one of my favorites ~ Mariachi Sol de Mexico! Listen all the way to the end for Silent Night in Spanish! If this doesn’t put you in the holiday spirit and aching for a trip to Cozumel, I just don’t know what will!!

A big thanks to COZUMELINSIDER for all your help booking my two trips! The Eagle Ray 3 reef snorkel was fantastic! It was a small group tour of 8 people with very very great personal service. I highly recommend this tour to all. My other tour was a tour of a lifetime, the Whale shark tour with Gamma Experience It was really something being in the water with a 50-60 foot whale shark! A couple restaurants I highly recommend are La lobsteria and especially Tony Romes. I highly recommend Cozumelinsider to all in booking tours as they picked great small tour groups for me! We will be leaving tommorrow for 2 week stay at Islamar villas and diving with Dive Paradise. All of this along with a car rental was booked through you guys. Not only did you have a professional attitude through all the e-mails in booking the original dates but at the last minute I extended my stay. You and your staff were especially kind through all of this. You got the car extended and went way out of your way to make sure everything was taken care of, not to mention letting me borrow your personal roller bag to go to the market. You extended everything with ease and you are a great asset to Cozumel and Mexico. This will be my 12 th trip and I will never work with anyone else from now on. Thank you Sherri. Jack J. Sherri...thank you again so very much for your fantastic website and for your excellent stories on life in Cozumel. We fellow Texans that are not fortunate enough to actually live there are able to do it through you and we are all extremely grateful...and incredibly envious! Having been an airline employee until retirement I have been lucky to have been down island over 20 times and it NEVER gets old. I thought I knew all about Cozumel, but was delighted to learn of new things and places through you and your website. Your current posting of how you came to Cozumel was so cool. You really need to work on that book! Congrats on this milestone, and continued luck and success in all you do. See you in September for our annual trip down for my birthday and Mexican Independence Day. M. Goodwin ~ Dallas, Texas

Hello, I want to let you know that I visit your website all the time! I love it, so much information. I used you as a resource when I came to Cozumel for the first time about 2 years ago. Although my soon-to-be wife was there before, I needed to do some of my own homework. As for her, she and I will be getting married on June 22 at Hotel Cozumel and we are both really excited about it. I am so happy that you are able to put this website together for people like us who love Cozumel and can't be there as much as we want to be. Thanks again! John DeMaio ~ Milford, CT, USA
