A Personal Note from Sherri "Cozumel Carnaval 2015 is Here!"
Sherri Davis - Owner/Operator CozumelInsiderAnd YES, just like that ~ It’s here already: Cozumel Carnaval 2015! It fell very early on the calendar this year so Cozumel Carnaval 2015 is upon us and as usual it is an incredibly colorful, noisy and fun time of year! This is such a long time island tradition, that its occurrence permeates activities everywhere throughout the island. Competition dance groups are driving all over town and blocking streets with their trucks and sound systems as they perform for neighborhoods and excite folks for the parades. Parking and getting around downtown is near impossible because of all the extra Carnaval activities going on up there. And then of course back in town where folks live, the fabric and craft stores are jammed with folks running from store to store looking for that last bit of glitz to add to their costume. It’s just a fabulous part of life here this time of year ~ Carnaval.

A sequin on a lapel here, a glob of glitter there on a skirt or a wad of fabric stapled together and hot glued to the top of an oddly shaped hat seem to be the way to raise a Carnavalero’s spirits. I know it does mine! Folks fearlessly try any combination of things because after all ~ it only has to stay put together for 3 nights of parades! And all Carnavaleros try to help each other with costume dilemmas ~ “oh I saw orange feathers at such and such store” or “yes, they have purple wigs just around the corner.” And of course if you happen to have anything in your own personal “Carnavalero” stash of costume supplies that can help some one with a sparkle dilemma, it’s obligatory to disclose and turn it over! After all ~ it’s about sharing the fun and participating!

Don't Miss Cozumel Carnaval!!Most folks design and make their own costumes as well as the parade floats, so there are a lot of trailers pulled up in front of houses right now all over the neighborhoods. In a matter of days the trailers are transformed into everything imaginable so they can be in the Carnaval parades. At night, the beer coolers and snacks come out as the guys string wires on the trailers to try to rig up lights and music with generator power while the gals spray paint and glitter things up all over the float. As I drove around yesterday, I saw a fine looking giant shark being glittered ~ maybe they’ll put folks inside the mouth or something…who knows? Then later in the day I spotted a jumping frog coming to life in another part of town as communities come together and join in the fun that only Carnaval can create. Finally I passed by the location where all of the 'big' floats are being put together ~ those that the Carnaval Royal Court will ride on and wow ~ do those look impressive this year!

Hopefully you are HERE on the island with us and can enjoy this fantastic week of celebration with us and if not, please do visit our Cozumel Carnaval section of the website where we have over a decade of Carnaval pics already posted. I'm excited to say that we've acquired a wonderful collection of Carnaval photos from the 90's that we hope to get posted this year too! But first ~ we'll get back to posting THIS year's Carnaval photos!! Have fun and enjoy Cozumel Carnaval 2015!!

I just wanted to let you know we really enjoyed our experience with the turtle salvation program this week. It was an amazing evening I will never forget. I will be sure to share the info with my local dive shops and SCUBA club when I return. I know that many others would love to participate and support the turtles. Thanks again and if you could pass along our appreciation to the biologists and other volunteers, we know it is all of your dedication that helps the turtles. J & D Lamb ~ Tucson, AZ

I must admit, booking our excursion through you and not the cruise ship was unsettling but once we got to your facility all of our doubts were gone. Your park and staff were first class, professional, friendly and even the dophins looked happy. Thank you for a truly once in a life time experience. Your quick response to my e-mails was also appreciated. I can assure you I will recommend your park to anyone that tells me they are going on a cruise. Thanks again. We just got back from Cozumel and the best thing we did was the Sea Turtle Release with FP&M. They were very educational and not just about the turtles. We were so excited to be able to hold the babies and set them free. Watching them bob their heads out of the water to breathe was quite a sight! Digging for them was enchanting, like finding buried treasure! Thanks to COZUMELINSIDER for helping us make this happen! Karen E. ~ Arroyo Grande, CA USA

Just wanted to sayThank You for your webcam. We Love Cozumel and miss it so much. It is nice to be able to look at the webcam every day and see what is happening and the beautiful water. Your website has also been very helpful when planning our trips. Keep up the good work. amy ~ southern Utah

Hello Sherri ~ I met you back in 2001 (12 years ago!) when my husband and I along with another couple were involved in a wreck and you were behind us and helped us out as to our rights in the matter. A motorcycle ran into the side of us pretty bad if you recall. I believe you said you lived in Addison, Texas like us. I have booked a trip and will be in Cozumel next Tuesday. Any recommendation on vehicle rental you can suggest for me? LATER: My date and I had a blast in Cozumel. He loved the island. It was a very short trip. I am including a photo of us on the cruise. He would like to go back and stay for a few days at your place. Hope you are doing good, please keep in touch. C Bronstad ~ San Antonio, TX
