(01/02/2016) - IslaMar is a great place set back from the beachfront and big resorts. It is living in Mexico, if you get my drift. IslaMar is back perhaps 6 or 7 blocks from the resorts. We wanted something different this time. I loved being back with the local vibe. There are restaurants with amazing food back here. You walk to them. We walked at night through the narrow streets and visited with the friendly people. We felt safe. I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just telling you what we did. We also rented a small car and went to the beach every day. We found our dollars went a long ways in the grocery store. No place is too far away on Cozumel. Christmas Night we wandered into a park with an amphitheater. There was a clown performing. There were perhaps 200 locals there and we saw one other gringo. I loved being there and watching these beautiful people. They all seemed glad to see us. Is it for everybody? Probly not. There is a nice little clean pool, but nobody is going to bring you a margarita. If you have a hankering for fries at midnight, not going to happen. If you are set on a resort, this is not your place. But If you want to stay in a beautiful affordable villa with super cleaning and other services and run by great folks in the middle of town, you should try this. I love it and can't wait to go back! (03/04/2015) - This was the perfect choice for us. The safe bright one bedroom apartments and the lovely grounds and pool are kept immaculately by the super staff. The owner Sherri is full of information and tips about the island. You can't ask for a nicer, more helpful host. This is a super location for walking, eating at all kinds of yummy local places while still having the option of visiting the many places to buy food and cook in. I can't recommend this listing enough for those who want to experience Cozumel. M. & J. ~ Oakville, ON, Canada

(05/24/2015) If you are looking for a place off the tourist trap area IslaMar may be the place for you. Located about 15 to 20 min walk to the main drag the waterfront. We had a second floor unit and the staff we had contact with were Nidia, Andrea and Yuan, all very helpful and speak good English. We used bicycles to get around that we rented and I tell you it sure was nice to get in the pool after a ride. The pool is not large but very appreciated by us and our vacation neighbors. The units are well appointed had everything we needed to cook, had to make a few changes to how you would cook, but that's ok we were on vacation. Some great local restaurants in walking distance please try to go to them I don't think you would be disappointed if your looking for value to your buck. I would recommend IslaMar to anyone who wants to stay away from the tourist area, great value for your dollar. F. & G. Nadeau-BungayMay 201 ~ Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Stupendous time! Absolutely perfect experience and a great incentive to become an “expat” ourselves. See you soon! P.S. – Do you have any real estate tips? By the way, Sissy and YB made this week wonderful. We missed our 4 cat children, so having them to visit us… or visit our ham and cheese scraps… was a gift! Stacy & David G. ~ Augusta, ME

(10/28/2015) I loved staying here. The purpose of my three-week trip was to improve my Spanish and learn about Mexican culture. This was the perfect place to do it. IslaMar is in a decidedly non-tourist part of town, which means you're far more likely to glimpse the heart and soul of Mexico here than you would be at a beach resort. You'll also save a lot of money on food and rent. I felt quite safe exploring the neighborhood and making the 10-minute walk downtown. If you don't feel like walking, you can hail a cab and ride practically anywhere you want to go in town for under $5.

The owner, Sherri, and her assistant Martin answered all my questions before and during my trip. The on-site staff were beyond friendly, sweet, and helpful with my every need. I asked for a Spanish tutor; they researched candidates and found me a great one. She improved my skills a lot, for very little money, and she was a joy to know. I hope she and I will be friends for life.

The property itself was comfortable and well maintained, with high-quality finishes. I was able to cook well in the kitchenette. The staff will wash, dry, and fold a huge bag of laundry for a small fee, so it's easy to stay here for longer time periods despite packing light.

IslaMar will be my first choice for all future trips to Cozumel. C. Dooley ~ Dallas, TX USA
