Each day early in the morning, local shopkeepers rise early, make their way to the main plaza area and begin preparing for the day's shopping tourists. As they sweep and organize, the streets and walkways begin to come alive with color. Nothing can match the brillant turquoises and fuschas and yellows which somehow combine to ooze with the flavor of tropical Mexico.
While there is nothing in the stores that is actually manufactured or made here, shoppers can find some real values and interesting items. Shopping malls offer everything from high dollar jewelry, designer sunglasses and name brand watersports attire while the entrepreneur 'mom & pop" shops overflow with handcrafted and novelty items. If you are looking to recall the flavor of Cozumel and your tropical vacation, try to locate the unique, colorful, handmade or hand painted items. These artisan items will probably never be priceless artifacts but a hand carved and painted walking cane or wooden box never loses its appeal and will always serve as a lovely reminder of your tropcial vacation time in Cozumel. |
