When scuba diving, being inconspicuous underwater is good because you can get up close and personal with fish and other marine creatures. But being inconspicuous above water is not so good since divers want their dive boat captains to see them and get them back on the dive boat safely in order to avoid a potential crisis like the one that unfolds in the recently released movie "Open Water." It is not uncommon for divers to become separated from their dive boats because of currents, so being seen at the surface is critical for diver safety.
With this in mind, a Plano PADI Course Director and scuba instructor invented RESQME to make divers more visible on the surface. The sheer size and screaming orange color of this "oh-so-visible" device tops all others on the market! Other signaling devices on the market today are commonly designed as long, skinny, noodle-shaped balloons that divers must grip and hold erect at the surface in order to been seen.
The RESQME device is an amalgamation of a heavy-guage 3-foot balloon, like those used at car dealerships, and an inflator valve used for regular balloons. The inflator valve is linked to your tank via the low pressure hose. Since RESQME attaches to a diver's gear hose and stays inflated, no hands are required to keep the buoy near the diver which is a distinct advantage in a survival situation when hands may need to be deployed elsewhere.
RESQME also comes in really handy when surfacing from a night dive. Lighting the inflated "balloon" using your flashlight makes it looks like a big ball of fire on the water. Great for grabbing the boat captain's attention!
You have the option to have one shipped to you prior to your visit or you could just pick it up from our office during your visit. It is good to reserve one ahead though because this is becoming quite a popular item. |
