Cozumel Arrivals: 18 Ships this Week
4/19 - Numbers drop dramatically this week in Cozumel as cruise ship arrivals show 18 ships registered to dock for the third full week of April 2015. This is 8 less than the number of ships last week and 2 less than the "20 in port" which marks a "high season." With the slide into low season now underway, an estimated 54,000 people will visit Cozumel this week via these cruise ships leaving an estimated US$ 4.3 million dollars behind in the local economy.

High season for cruise ship arrivals typically runs from November 15 - April 15 each year with the remaining 7 months of the year considered "low season."

This week Puerta Maya pier will be the big economic winner as 11 ships dock there, only 4 ships will dock at TMM/SSA International pier while Punta Langosta pier will see 3 arrivals and the downtown San Miguel pier will have -0- arrivals with passengers tendering in.

This week begins with 1 ship docking on Monday, 3 on Tuesday, 3 ships Wednesday, 3 on Thursday, 5 on Friday and then Saturday will bring 3 ships in port and Sunday will see -0- ships in port.

This years event was promoted it at the Miami International Boat Show which was held from February 12th to 16th February in hopes of supporting tourism in Cozumel.
Cozumel's Annual Aeroshow a Success as Always
Acrobatic pilots from the United States, Canada, Argentina, Honduras, Peru and Mexico gathered in Cozumel this past weekend for the Sixth consecutive edition of the Aeroshow 2015. This event of international stature has been carried out annually since 2010.

The show included acrobatic sky diving, aerobatics, exhibition of aircraft to scale, sports and exotic cars, motorcycles and a special flight of the Mexican Air Force. The entrance is always completely free. Starting at 11 am on Saturday April 18th, pilots carried out their practices for the final spectacle which took place on Sunday the 19th. Crowds of thousands attended the airfield located about 14 kilometers south of downtown Cozumel.

This year, the television channel Fox Sports 2, broadcasted the event with coverage in several countries around the world. Representatives of national channels and its sports programs also attend year after year to capture images that these foreign and domestic pilots carry out.
Location of Sand Theft Closed Down
Seals have been placed on the dune of Punta Morena last week in the eastern part of the island where there has been recent movements of illegal sand extraction. However, in Costa del Sol, in the South of the island and in the Club Cozumel Caribe, North of the hotel zone, where apparently they found part of the 500 cubic meters of sand which was removed, it seems that seals have not been placed and everything continues as normal.

Even though the devastation it is still unclear, staff of the Federal Attorney for environmental protection (Profepa) carried out, with total secrecy, verification in various parts of the island, including the surrounding area at Punta Morena Beach, where the enigmatic disappearance of the material took place.

As recalled, between the night of March 31 and the early morning of April 1, large vehicles moved about 500 cubic meters of sand located on the East Coast, next to the bike lane, which facilitated the discovery by sportsmen and environmentalists, who immediately shared the news on social networks which proved aberrant and pitiful for Cozumel.
Preparations Begin for the"El Cedral" Celebration
The annual festival of “El Cedral” will take place from April 29th to May 3rd. This event is in honor of the “Santa Cruz de Sabán”, a celebration with 167 years of history and whose origin was in 1848 when Casimiro Cárdenas came to the island to hide from the war of castes. Since then it has been a yearly promise to celebrate Santa Cruz which has passed from generation to generation and has become a huge Cultural celebration of the heritage of Cozumel.

The story, according to the information of the lifelong chronicler of Cozumel, Velio Vivas Valdés, dates from the year 1848, when Casimiro Cárdenas took refuge on the island as he fled the killing and persecution of the caste war. Finding this place a safe point, he thanked the Holy Cross with a celebration that was promised each year.

This promise has been fulfilled for generations by the descendants of Casimiro Cárdenas. The feast of the Santa Cruz de Sabán is performed during the fair of El Cedral, located to the South of the island, where every year they perform religious celebrations, fair, artistic events, bullfights and settlement rides for visitors.
Angry Bees Attack a Local Family
As in the past, an incident occurred where bees attacked people in a local area of Cozumel. Five people were injured and were hospitalized, including a firefighter, as well as two dogs that died before the attack of the angry insects ended.

The incident took place at 18:00 hours, at a home in the CTM colony whereas residents were sitting in their dining room when suddenly a swarm of these insects entered their home. Unable to do anything, they were trying to run and hide but the bees were numerous, many even entering into other rooms.

The Directorate of Civil Protection and firemen arrived as well as two emergency units. Once the officials managed to rescue the injured people, they were treated and transferred to a hospital for care. Fireman Raúl Gonzáles Vilchis, who helped the family, was also attacked by the swarm.

After three hours at the site, Civil Protection took control having exterminated the bees, reporting that in the place where the attack occurred they found lifeless bodies of the two family pets which had died due to the intense and massive bee stings.
The Benefits of Eating Lobster
One of the most representative dishes of Quintana Roo is the Lobster. It is also known in some countries as the "Princess of Seafood" as it is characterized by its exquisite taste and nutrients.

The warm waters of the Mexican Caribbean are one of the most favorable places for the reproduction of lobster which is usually large and is characterized by a rugged shell with a surface with strong spines, however, the abdomen is where the greatest amount of meat can be found.

Visitors from different parts of the world come to Quintana Roo to revel in this exquisite delicacy, which in addition to its incomparable flavor, offer nutrients from their soft white flesh and are recognized by specialists in nutrition. The 'Natursan' health portal mentioned that lobster is notable for being a choice for seafood whose meat is low in fat therefore being one of the healthiest seafood products to consume.

As is the case with other foods such as crabs, lobsters are especially rich in vitamins and minerals. In fact, vitamins included in high content are Pantothenic acid (helps convert food into energy) and vitamin E (acts as an antioxidant by helping keep arteries in an optimal state). Referring to its minerals, it contains a high content of calcium (a lot richer than other seafood), zinc, potassium and selenium. In this sense, the lobster is useful to prevent osteoporosis, also helping to protect and care for the health of the heart. Precisely because of its zinc content, it is seafood that helps to strengthen the immune system, in addition to improve fertility.

The capture of lobster engages approximately 1,200 fishermen in the peninsula of Yucatan, who remove 99 percent of the species Panulirus argus and Panulirus guttatus.
