As most travelers know, organized tours can really eat into a travel budget and typically there will be 10+ other travelers in a tour group so excursion itineraries are relatively structured and pre-planned. However, these organized tours are great fun and real adventures for less experienced travelers or those not familiar with Cozumel. But as more seasoned travelers know, sometimes it's just be nice to experience the island without spending a bunch of money or having every minute planned. It's also great to just get away from the crowds at times, too.
While Cozumel Insider always recommends planned excursions for those not familiar with Cozumel, we also recognize that frequent visitors to the island are eager to get off on their own and "wing it" a bit. My family and I have returned to Cozumel many times - it's a favorite destination and we have watched it change over the past 20 years. The Cozumel Insider is a great publication - it's a wonderful way to keep up with the news about one of our favorite islands. We are preparing to visit again this August and the Insider has shown us some different activities to try, as well as helped to bring us up to date with local political and ecological happenings. Hey ~ I just wanted to follow up and say what a great time we had swimming with the whale sharks. I also wanted to commend our tour guide Cesar. He was very knowledgeable of the people, the land, the culture, and the history. I would highly recommend him to anybody wanting to tour Mexico.
