Cozumel Carnaval 2006 officially began Wednesday evening, February 22nd at the Coronation Ceremony held in the Downtown Plaza. The jovial host of Carnaval 2006, Memo Lara began by welcoming everyone to Carnaval 2006 and then introduced the Presidente of Cozumel Gustavo Ortega Juaquin and his wife who were present to officially crown the Royal Court of Carnaval 2006.
El Presidente Gustavo made opening remarks congratulating all of the king and queen candidates and praising them for their excellent preparation and work thus far toward ensuring Carnaval 2006 to be a success. He asked for their continued hard work and then closed his remarks stating that he was excited about this grand celebration in light of all that the community has been through these past months in recovering from Emily & Wilma. He then indicated he was looking forward to participating in the upcoming parades himself on a decorated float and asked everyone to join in creating the spirit that is Cozumel Carnaval.
With flowers, banners and crowns in hand, El Presidente Gustavo then officially crowned Leslie Fabiola Perez Gaeta as Queen and Manuel Jose Alcocer Angulo as King of Carnaval 2006. Then Daniela and Danny Boy were crowned as King and Queen of Allegria. The Queen of the Colonias was crowned followed by the 2nd Annual Children’s Royal Court.
As King of Carnaval 2006, King Manuel closed the Coronation Ceremonies in the traditional fashion by reading comments from his scroll thanking El Presidente Gustavo and the Carnaval Committee for their efforts and then asking everyone to become Carnavaleros for the coming week and participate in all of the festivities!
