Photos from Carnaval 2006 - The Parades
Cozumel Carnaval 2006 presented its colorful array of Carnavaleros Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights with the traditional parades down beachfront street. El Presidente de Cozumel, Gustavo Ortega Juaquin enjoys Carnaval so much that he requested there be 4 nights of parades scheduled for everyone this year instead of the traditional 3 nights of parades for adults and one night for children. This turned out to be a lucky scheduling change as the weather turned a bit inclement on Sunday night and delayed the parade for about 3 hours. By the time the rains cleared and everyone got organized to have the parade, the spectators had reduced in numbers significantly. So having the additional night of Monday already on the schedule of events meant that everyone still got to enjoy 3 complete nights of parades.

As usual each parade night the spectator crowds grew bigger and bigger yet with the new wider sidewalks installed last year on Melgar no one seemed overly crowded. And there were more and more participants in the parades culminating with the final Tuesday night parade lasting over 4 hours. Once again, Cozumel’s true “Carnavaleros” rose to the occasion with spectacular colors, incredible dancers and wild enthusiasm which have become hallmarks of each year’s parades!

Also a very special thank you to these kind individuals who have graciously shared their Cozumel Carnaval 2006 photos with you through COZUMELINSIDER: Alfredo Rosas, Juan Carlos Rodriguez Burgos, Karen Pedersen and Chellie Castellanos.
